Holiday Weddings: Are They More Expensive?

As Valentine’s Day approaches, many brides entertain the thought of a having their wedding on this day of love. But will holding your wedding on a popular holiday be all that you want it to be?

Holiday weekends are an expensive time of year to hold a wedding. For this reason you should think twice if you are planning to book a wedding around Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. These holidays are very popular times of the year and brides will see added expenses because of demand. You are not just competing with other brides for the date, but also private parties and corporations. Some vendors, realizing the desire for holiday weddings, increase their rates. Additionally, flower prices rise dramatically. Holiday flowers are more expensive than other times of the year. The good news for Christmas weddings is that you can incorporate the venue decorations into your wedding and subsequently save some decor dollars.

Price isn’t the only factor to consider if you are thinking about a holiday wedding. Caterers, florists and service people are very busy and are usually overwhelmed during the holidays. If you want your vendors to provide better service (and what bride wouldn’t want that on her wedding day?) pick a wedding date that is 3 weeks before or 3 weeks after a holiday. Your service staff will be well-rested and give you their full attention.

Having a holiday wedding may also be difficult for out-of-town guests. Your guests may have difficulty booking flights and will probably pay more because of the holiday.

When all is considered, a holiday wedding may not be the fairy tale day you envision. Share your thoughts. Would you consider get married on a holiday?
